LGBT-Friendly Elopement Packages: What to Look For and Why It Matters

When planning your elopement, finding the perfect package can feel like a dream come true. But for LGBT couples, there’s an extra layer of consideration: ensuring that the vendors and venues you choose are truly inclusive and supportive. While many elopement vendors claim to be LGBT-friendly, it’s essential to know what to look for so that your elopement is everything you’ve envisioned—and more.

Why LGBTQ-Friendly Elopement Packages Matter

Your wedding day should be a celebration of your love, free from worry or judgment. Unfortunately, not all vendors understand or respect the unique needs and experiences of LGBTQIA+ couples. Choosing an LGBTQ-friendly elopement package isn’t just about finding vendors who will work with you; it’s about finding partners who celebrate your love and create a safe, welcoming environment for your elopement experience.

Inclusivity matters. When you work with vendors who are genuinely LGBTIA-friendly, you can feel confident that your elopement will be handled with the care, respect, and joy it deserves. You won’t have to worry about awkward conversations, uncomfortable moments, or feeling like an afterthought. Instead, you can focus on what truly matters—each other.

If you are in Alabama or Tennessee, I have gathered this list of LGBTQ-friendly wedding vendors.

What to Look For in an LGBT-Friendly Elopement Package

1. Clear Communication and Inclusive Language

Pay attention to the language used in package descriptions, on websites, and in communications. Are the terms gender-neutral? Does the vendor acknowledge and celebrate all forms of love? Inclusive language is often the first sign that a vendor is genuinely committed to supporting LGBTIA+ couples.

2. Positive Reviews and Testimonials

Look for reviews and testimonials from other LGBTIA+ couples. These firsthand accounts can provide valuable insights into how the vendor treated them and whether they felt respected and celebrated throughout the planning process and on their big day.

3. Diverse Portfolio

A vendor’s portfolio can tell you a lot about their experience and inclusivity. Do they feature a diverse range of couples in their marketing materials? Can you see yourself in their work on Instagram without scrolling? Are LGBTIA+ couples prominently showcased? A diverse portfolio is a strong indicator that the vendor is comfortable working with and celebrating all types of relationships.

4. Personalized and Inclusive Services

Truly inclusive elopement packages are tailored to meet the unique needs of each couple. Look for vendors who are willing to customize their services to reflect your relationship and vision. Whether it’s incorporating your personal style, traditions, or requests, a flexible and personalized approach is key.

5. Vendor Partnerships

Consider the vendors your package provider partners with. Do they work with other LGBTQ-friendly businesses? A network of inclusive vendors ensures that every aspect of your elopement—from florals to photography—is handled by professionals who share your values. If they boast partnerships or awards from non-inclusive publications, then it is an easy hard no.

Red Flags to Watch Out For

While searching for the perfect elopement package, be mindful of red flags that may indicate a lack of inclusivity:

Vague Language

If a vendor’s website or communication lacks clear and inclusive language, it may be a sign that they’re not truly committed to serving LGBTQIA+ couples. Look for “bride” and “groom” language. Are they asking for your pronouns in their inquiry form? Do they market towards brides only?

No Mention of LGBTIA+ Inclusivity

If a vendor doesn’t explicitly mention their support for LGBTQIA+ couples, don’t hesitate to ask them directly about their experience and commitment. If you are uncomfortable doing so, it is probably best to move onto another vendor. If you are my client, reach out and I will ask for you.

Inconsistent Portfolio

If a vendor’s portfolio only features heterosexual couples, it’s worth asking why. A lack of diversity can be a sign that the vendor is inexperienced or uncomfortable working with LGBTIA+ couples. We are in a time where this is unacceptable in my book. If you cannot see yourself in someone’s work, then they have not put in the effort to make sure you feel welcome.

YOUR LGBTQ+ ELOPEMENT DESERVES THE BEST

Your elopement is one of the most significant days of your life, and it deserves to be everything you’ve dreamed of—free from stress, full of love, and uniquely yours. By choosing an LGBTQ-friendly elopement package, you’re ensuring that your day is not just beautiful, but also a true celebration of your love. With the right vendors by your side, you can focus on what truly matters: committing to a lifetime of love and happiness together.
